Experimental Hoodies

Hoodies can be traced back to the Medieval times, worn by monks, executioners, and the Grim Reaper (it sounds a bit macabre). It was then first produced in the US in the 1930's, and marketed by the sportwear brand Champions. The hoodie became mainstream with the rise of the hip-hop culture. The fact that you can cover yourself created this anonymity style that the youth longed for. Then came Rocky with the whole hoodie attitude! Today hoodies are popular with male and female, the young and less young, cool kids and geeks!

As part of the street wear project we learned how to make hoodies this week. It may seem difficult, intimidating and impossible to make but it's actually quite easy and fun. Hoodies are everywhere, specially in Hanoi, so what's challenging is to make one that is completely different, creative and innovative. So in three hours students came out with  different shapes: some awkward, bizarre, some were more classic and feminine, some were more edgy and aggressive.

Here is an interesting and easy to follow tutorial.
Now get busy with your sewing machine and your patterns
